Submission Guidelines for Writers and Photographers

At this point in time, all contributions made to Harrowsmith are on a pro bono basis. As a small token of appreciation, we extend a free one-year subscription to our mighty writers and photographers.

We are continually looking for colourful voices from across Canada and experts in the fields that we explore. We welcome stories on climate change, DIY projects, community gardens, homesteading, new farming practices and of course, food trends. Our main pillars are Gardening, Environment, Travel & Culture, Food & Recipes and Home & Design.

If you are a blogger, writing for Harrowsmith can expand your audience instantly with our social media platform and partnerships with different retailers. If you are a farmer, builder, microbrewer or small business owner, connect with us! We want to showcase urban and rural innovators who embody our vision: simplicity and sustainability!

Please familiarize yourself with our magazine. We are definitely not Vanity Fair! Published three times a year in print and digital editions (Spring, Fall, Winter) with a digital-exclusive Summer issue.  Harrowsmith sold over 46,000 copies of its spring and fall issues in 2016. Satisfying both rural and urban readers alike, the brand revolves around sustainability, regardless of where you call home.

Photographers: We request all images are at least 1MB in size. The higher the resolution the better, of course. Images should be in landscape format and sent as a JPEG file for optimal use on our website and social media sites.
