Definition: Circular Economy

October's Waste Reduction Week is focused on building a circular economy system in Canada.

A circular economy is designed to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency. It aims to keep products, materials, and resources in circulation for as long as possible through strategies like recycling, reusing, and remanufacturing, ultimately reducing environmental impact.

In contrast, a linear economic system follows a “take-make-dispose” model, where resources are extracted, products are manufactured, and waste is generated without significant consideration for recycling or reusing.
