Gifts of Remembrance

Nov 11 - Lest We Forget.

November 11 is a time for all Canadians to honour and remember the soldiers, veterans and civilians who served — and those who lost their lives — in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions around the world. Many of us look for ways to keep their memories alive for future generations all year long. Here are a few ways to ensure your loved ones are never forgotten:

Wind chimes are a peaceful way to remember loved ones. Their soft tones feel like a quiet message on the wind, and when personalized, they offer a gentle moment of reflection each time the breeze passes through.

Birdhouses make a living tribute, inviting life and beauty while symbolizing a loved one’s lasting presence. Watching birds come and go can offer comfort, connecting us to nature and the ongoing cycle of life.

Clocks symbolize the passage of time and a loved one’s impact. A thoughtfully chosen clock, engraved with a name, serves as a reminder of shared moments, enduring love and the presence of memories, even as time moves forward.

THIS MONTH IN HISTORY

In November 1885, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was completed, connecting eastern and western Canada, spanning nearly 5,000 kilometres across the country.

On November 7, CPR director Donald A. Smith drove the last spike at Craigellachie, B.C., fulfilling a promise made when British
Columbia joined Confederation in 1871. Learn more at the Canadian Museum of History’s website. historymuseum.ca
