Harrowsmith Su26 Press Release

Harrowsmith Summer 2026 Press Release

For immediate release, Toronto, Ontario— Apr 24, 2026.

Nobody believed it would happen, but summer finally decided to arrive and we’ve packed the very best bits of the season into one tidy to-go package.

Our Postcards from Across Canada themed-issue will inspire both hometown pride and temptation. We asked our readers to share what they love most about where they currently live from Chelsea, Quebec, where “forest meets front porch” to “spaghetti sundaes” at Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour in Summerside, PE.

Readers can follow in the hiking boot footsteps of Nicola Ross (author of the Loops & Lattes hiking guide series) as she treks Newfoundland and Labrador’s East Coast Trail while aviator Lola Reid Allin shares soggy notes from the 97-kilometre Akshayuk Pass on Baffin Island. We also take readers inside three haunted historic houses and the stately Imperial tower lighthouses of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Closer to home, Chef Cynthia Peters walks us through the steps of three elegant French-inspired appetizers perfect for sunset gatherings. Our editor-in-chief, Jules Torti, shares her preferred 6-pack of feel-good beers. Want to learn how to grow your own martini olives? Yeah, we’ve got you covered there. Dara Gellman of @DaraEats has a sweet surprise too! In celebration of Timbit’s 50th anniversary, she has created an air-fryer donut hole recipe that will win over anyone, anytime of day.

The Canadian Handywoman, Tammy Watson, invites builders new and seasoned to build a Little Garden Greenhouse from salvaged windows. It’s suitable for community gardens or rural roadsides and a neat way to share seeds, plant clippings and produce.

Somehow we managed to sneak in Madagascar’s lemurs and Madonna too. You’ll see. And if you love hydrangeas, our Gardening Editor Frankie Flowers, tells all.

It’s time to exhale.

Harrowsmith continues to celebrate rural and urban communities through thoughtful storytelling. We share a deep love of growing stuff, hyper local food, wild spaces and Canadiana, spotlighting farmers, makers and shakers. Pick up your copy May 11th and start plotting your best summer yet. Our magazine pairs well with road trips, Muskoka chairs, docks, condo balconies, campsites, your first fair-trade coffee of the morning or a glass of Prince Edward County wine at day’s end.

Harrowsmith is the farm-to-condo go-to for living sustainably and simply. For 50 years, we have offered a coast-to-coast-to-coast perspective on gardening, recipes, DIY projects, mindful living, eco-friendly travel, heritage, hellery and history!

We’re ramping things up for Harrowsmith’s 2026-27  50th anniversary collector’s edition fall almanac. Expect 288 pages of WOW, farm dogs, rail trails and ales and a genuine cakewalk through the decades.
